To optimize performance, many applications across all industry sectors have a need for precise positioning and synchronization. These applications include:
To date, positioning and synchronization operations have been performed using servo drives. However, servo equipment is expensive; it is difficult to commission and requires additional cabling. And, as servo drives do not work with open loop control systems, there is a high failure rate. Many applications do not require the high dynamic performance offered by a servo drive. An alternative was to use an AC drive. But, until now, an additional internal or external module or an encoder on the motor was required.
Danfoss Drives has developed an innovative alternative to servo control. The Integrated Motion Controller (IMC) is functionality that enables an AC drive to perform high-precision positioning and synchronization operations without the need for additional modules or hardware. IMC is now configurable in the software of the VLT® AutomationDrive FC 302.
IMC has many advantages. It works with all conventional motor technologies, with closed loop or open loop control, and offers sensor less homing with torque detection. Drives are adapted to the applications through simple parameterization. This means that knowledge of servo technology or programming languages is not required. As no encoder or additional cables are needed, engineering, installation and commissioning time and costs can be reduced.

The Axioline P modular proxy from Phoenix Contact connects PROFIBUS PA segments directly to a PROFINET network. The modular station communicates with a PROFINET controller, e.g., a distributed control system, via a bus coupler. As an option, up to eight PROFIBUS PA segments can be connected to the individual proxy outlets in a compact way. To ensure the individual segments are immune to interference, appropriate shield connection technology is available. FDT/DTM technology simplifies the startup and device management of both the proxy station, which is fully integrated into higher-level control systems, and the connected PROFIBUS PA devices. The AXL P BK PN AF bus coupler supports the specification for implementing S2 system redundancy using only one bus coupler. Two bus couplers are required in order to satisfy PROFINET system redundancy R1 and R2. The hot-swap capability integrated in the bus coupler ensures high system availability.
The SIMATIC Field PG with its robust magnesium housing is well prepared for mobile applications in harsh environments: Shocks and vibrations, but also electromagnetic disturbances in machine-oriented industrial environments do not affect the device. Equipped with all important automation interfaces, the connection to machines and systems is possible via PROFIBUS as well as via two fast PROFINET interfaces. Serial connections are also supported. The SIMATIC memory cards can be deleted and programmed directly in the corresponding slots. The pre-installed engineering software makes the SIMATIC Field PG ready for immediate use. The TIA Portal simplifies fast and efficient configuring, commissioning, service and maintenance. The SIMATIC Field PG is available in two performance choices: Comfort and Advanced
